Christine McCrossan is the union's in-house lawyer dealing with Employment Law matters. Below Christine tells us a bit about herself.

My involvement with the OILC started around 1997, when by word of mouth recommendation, Jake Molloy approached me to enquire whether I would be interested in providing legal services to the Union. At that time we envisaged ad hoc advice as and when required together with the occasional representation before the Tribunal. The situation has developed somewhat since then as new employment legislation comes thick and fast. It is now a challenge simply keeping up to date with all the changes. Hence the need for more dedicated legal assistance. As from 6th August 2001 I am now working in-house with the Union. I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed. When first approached I had no hesitation in coming on board with OILC. It was exactly the sort of work I wanted to do.

During the last few years employment law has become more complex. One reason why membership of OILC, which provides access to free legal advice and representation, is of ever increasing relevance to any offshore worker who wishes to protect his or her individual rights.

On a day to day basis I will be available to deal with any queries from all members about employment issues – ranging from unfair dismissal, health and safety victimisation, discrimination, wages act, TUPE, redundancy, changes to terms and conditions, etc. etc.

I can be contacted on christine@oilc.org and I look forward to being of assistance.
