OILC's primary aim is to provide a service to the membership which is second to none. To do this we must overcome all of the difficulties inherent to the industry. Geographical and logistical problems complicate the simple act of communication and the wide and varied nature of operations requires specialist input which can only be gained from those in the know. To this end, and in line with our, "Of and For Offshore Workers" concept, we provide you with contact details for the unions executive and workplace representatives. We believe this structure also has spin-offs for the industry as it delivers on that ever elusive goal of "workforce involvement". OILC will train all rep's in the role of representative or companion providing on-site expertise in the event of grievances or disciplinary issues arising. Additionally, extensive training will be provided in health and safety law, crucial we feel given the shift in attitude toward "accountability". Our aim here is two fold in that we hope to improve and enhance employee relations while striving to improve safety awareness and overall performance. The Organising Committee, the union’s executive, is a six man team who are responsible for the general management of the union. It's make up is - General Secretary, plus 1st and 2nd deputies, and Chairman, again with deputies. General Secretary: Jake Molloy, was offshore for some 17 years, latterly in the role of HLO. Was also a safety rep' for his last 6 years offshore prior to being elected into his current post. He is the only full time officer and was re-elected into office in April 2007 for two years. Contact Jake Molloy or phone 01224 210118. First Deputy General Secretary: Jim MacDonald, has worked offshore for over 20 years and is currently employed by Wood Group in deck and heli-deck operations. He has been actively involved in the safety rep. role for several years and holds a NEBOSH (National Examination Board Occupational Safety Health) Certificate. Contact: Jim MacDonald. Chairman: Mike Craig, has worked offshore for over 15 years and is currently employed by Transocean Drilling as a Radio Operator. He has fulfilled the role of Safety rep. in the recent past. Contact: Mike Craig. First Deputy Chairman: Mick Greenwell, has worked offshore for over 15 years and before an injury, was employed by Wood Group as a mechanical technician on the Brent Field. He has previously held the role of Safety rep. and employee rep. He also holds a NEBOSH Certificate (credit). Contact: Mike Greenwell. Second Deputy Chairman: Neil Rothnie has worked offshore for over 20 years and is currently employed in the Norwegian Sector as a mud engineer. Contact: Neil Rothnie In addition to the Organising Committee, OILC has a network of rep's known as the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee occupies a role just below the Organising Committee and provides advice and information to it. These are the people at the front line who, after training, will facilitate the role of companion, advisor, and focal point for communication. The individuals listed on this page form only part of the network of rep's we currently have. However, due to continued concerns about the possibility of 'repercussions' on the employment front should their identities become known, several rep's have opted to remain anonymous at this stage. Those who have chosen to 'go public' as it were, have done so in the hope it will change attitudes toward OILC. No hidden agendas, no covert operations, just a group of workers exercising their statutory rights in pursuit of workforce involvement, empowerment and ownership. They can all be contacted through OILC. In essence, we are a group of workers with a wealth of experience and knowledge in the industry, trying to play a part in the drive for all round improvement. No bureaucrats here, just honest commitment and enthusiasm. Wood Group Installation rep: Brian Duncan, Electrical Technician, over 15 years offshore, currently acts as employee rep. Amec Installation deputy rep Cormorant Alpha: Brian Chalmers, Electrical Technician, offshore too long! Currently a safety rep. Salamis ad-hoc area rep: Kenny Butler, Painter, offshore over 26 years. Kenny has no fixed installation, but is keen to assist Salamis employees wherever he may be located. With the number of ad-hoc people in the industry, ad-hoc reps are essential. Kenny’s area is therefore the UK Continental Shelf, though should he land on a unit with a rep, all business will be through the Installation rep. Salamis area rep Brent Field: Mike Young is a scaffolder in the Brent field and has worked offshore for over 21years. He is a safety rep. and also holds a NEBOSH Certificate.
