The Offshore Industry Liaison Committee is a registered Trade Union. Financial and other relevant details of the union's affairs may be obtained by non-members from the Government's Certification Officer for Trade Unions. Copies of our Objects and Constitution may be obtained from OILC at 49 Carmelite St, Aberdeen, Scotland, UK, AB11 6NQ. Drop us a note using the "Contact OILC" page on this web site. We are always happy to oblige. You may download the Membership Application Form from this web site. Simply go to the page and print it. We need your signature twice on the form - one if you wish to pay by Standing Order and another to verify to whom benefit of £3,300 should be paid in the event of your death.

The benefits of OILC membership are many and varied. Perhaps we could describe them in two categories - tangible and intangible.

Tangible would include the first class help and advisory service we provide for members and their families on everything from legal and contractual matters through to our legendary effectiveness in industrial tribunals and industrial injury compensation claims. And, of course, OILC's legal team does not operate a 'No-win No-fee' legal aid scheme. When you win with OILC you take the lot - no commission, no fees, no claw-back - every penny is yours. If your purpose in joining OILC is to insure yourself and your family against the potentially horrendous costs of litigation then this alone justifies the outlay of thirty or so pence per day. And make no mistake, should ever you require legal representation you will not find better at any price.

Also, don't forget the union's death benefit scheme. No one likes to contemplate their own death but it is sensible to consider how your family will cope in the immediate aftermath of your departure. OILC's policy is underwritten at Lloyds and pays out £3300 within days easing the immediate cash crisis. Death in any circumstances, from whatever cause, whether at work or not, is covered. Think about it. As soon as you sign up for OILC membership your dependants are guaranteed to get back every penny you will, or would have paid, to the union in contributions over the next 27 years! So, arguably, the only families who will actually pay any dues at all are those whose breadwinners remain in membership for 28 years or more. The arithmetic alone demolishes any excuse not to join OILC.

Intangible benefits include OILC's continuous scrutiny of the offshore oil and gas industry. We make no apology for being the proverbial 'thorn in the side'. This industry has not had a good track record in its regard for many who work in it. Safety, rights at work, long term security are just some of the issues of continuing concern. OILC is still in there fighting for positive improvement - and we're not going to go away! One of our strengths is our independence. OILC is funded wholly and totally by its members and is answerable only to them. A union of, and for, employees in Britain's oil and gas industry. A union run by its members, for its members.
